about us
The teaching staff at the Sue Hewiit Dance Studio (SHDS) consists of a variety of teachers. Sue is proud of the fact that the majority of her teachers not only have an undergraduate degree in their specialized field of work, but a graduate degree as well.
Following is a list of the teachers, the approximate number of years they have been with the studio, what they teach and their full-time career.
1) Kristy Rado, 13 years, teaches primarily ballet and pointe as well as a ballet/tap combo class. Kristy is a 4th grade teacher in the Blairsville-Saltsburg School District. A former student of Sue's. Kristy has become an integral part of the studio.
2) Heather Brunetta, 6 years, teaches combo classes as well as ballet, jazz and tap. Heather is a Kindergarten teacher at Horace Mann School in Indiana, and she is the advisor to the senior high I-Ettes and Dance Team. Also a former Sue dancer, Heather's role within the studio is invaluable.
3) Tracee Detar, 3rd year with the studio as the hip-hop instructor. Tracee is also the Human Resource Manager with Superior Wells Inc. and soon to be married!!

In addition to the regular weekly schedule, SHDS brings in guest artists to work with the dancers such as: Maria Caruso and Kelli Basil of Bodiography Contemporary Ballet Company (www.bodiographycbc.com), Pittsburgh, PA, Dr Cheryl Wilson, IUP Faculty and Jane Potter Baumer, private voice instructor. On March 28, 2009 SHDS in conjunction with S&T Bank was proud to bring Bodiography to Indiana for a performance that included dancers from the studio.
SHDS dancers are also encouraged to attend dance conventions and workshops for a broader range of dance knowledge. The dancers have traveled to Pittsburgh to experience the work of Nuvo, Jeff Shade and Dance Masters of PA. This past December a group of dancers traveled to New York City to attend “The Rockette Experience” dance workshop as well as see “The Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes.” Several dancers also experienced an excellent workshop at The Grier School in Tyrone, PA where many outstanding dance companies came to teach and perform. In addition, Heather and Sue travelled to State College PA for the Urban Jamm dance convention. Sue feels it is very important to stay up-to-date on the latest trends in dance.
