Classes

Depending on the age of the dancer, this class is either 45 min or 1 hour in length. As the foundation for all dance, ballet is important for body placement, control and line. The dancers learn terminology and positions as they execute work at the barre, then center floor, then travelling movements. Posture, alignment, strength and flexibility are gained in ballet class. The dancers will perform in the yearly recital.

This 1 or 1 ¼ hour long class consists of each style of dance. The dancer progresses from a previous combo class by learning harder and more complicated steps. Jazz is introduced with up-to-date yet age-appropriate music and movements. The dancers will perform two or three dances in the yearly recital.

The twirlers will learn beginning techniques such as twirls, tosses and marching. Baton twirling is beneficial for hand/eye co-ordination and movement patterns.

This 45 class is full of fun and energy. The dancers learn street-style/ video-style moves to the latest music. Gaining strength and endurance, the dancers work on various routines that build week to week as well as learn crew-style tricks and tumbling. The dancers will perform in the yearly recital.

Various styles of modern (aka contemporary dance) are included in this 45 min or 1 hour long class. The dancers gain strength, flexibility and body control as they learn of the many styles, history and thought-process behind modern dance. Improvisational and choreographic lessons are included in this class. The dancers will perform in the yearly recital.

This 45 minute class focuses on the dance aspect of musical theater. Acting and lip-syncing exercises bring out the fun as the dancers learn steps and routines to music from both movie and Broadway musicals. Learning steps from previous dance eras or styles of famous choreographers brings knowledge and history to Musical Theater class. Recital dances usually include prop and set pieces in a mini-musical version.

Following their ballet class, experienced ballet dancers train in pointe shoes doing barre, center and travelling exercises.

Tap

Tap dancers learn footwork, rhythm and co-ordination in this ½ hour or 45 min class. Both traditional tap steps passed down through the years as well as the latest rhythm style tapping are presented. Intricate sounds and musicality are encouraged as the dancers do both travelling and center steps. The dancers will perform in the yearly recital.

The tumblers work on strengthening and stretching drills to work on their form and placement for various skills. In tumbling class, the dancers will work on their own level and include skills such as forward and backward rolls, handstands, cartwheels, round-offs, walk-overs, front and back handsprings, and eventually aerials and back tucks. Classes are held on Wednesdays from 8:30 – 9:15pm for Jr/Sr High dancers and on Saturday mornings from 9:30-10:15am for elementary dancers.
